Mission Trip to Henderson Settlement, Kentucky

July 18 - 24, 2010

We are so looking forward to our trip to Henderson Settlement beginning July 18th!

It is about a seven hour trip to the very southern edge of Kentucky and deep into the mountains.  Each day we will rise and attend morning devotions and watch as the mist in the valley gently lifts to display the glorious sun over the tree covered mountains.  It is a breathtaking way to begin each day.

Our project will be to remove the strips on a duplex located on the Settlement, and add insulation and cover with vinyl siding.  How great to have some people along who know what to do to achieve our goal.  We also will be paying the cost of our project which is $3,000. In addition, we will be making curtains for the windows of the duplex and the cost for that project is $500.

If we complete our projects early and/or there are team members that would like to do something else, there is always help needed in the thrift shop, the Sr. Center, or the greenhouse.  No job is too big or too small and all help is greatly appreciated by the people and clients of Henderson Settlement.

We will be staying in a air-conditioned guest house with a fully equipped kitchen for soft drinks, coffee and snacks.  A living/dining room for gathering for fellowship and devotions and a porch with a swing for leisure time.

Each evening there will be a program featuring Appalachian music, missions/history of Henderson Settlement.  These are all entertaining and offer a time to fellowship with other teams.

Wednesday is a free day - to give us a much needed rest in the middle of the week.  As a group we will decide what we would like to do: sightseeing, traveling to the "dreaded Tennessee", a state park or other areas of interest.

We will return on Saturday as changed people as we have helped to change the lives of others.
